In the fast-moving world of limited-overs cricket, batsmen are able to go all guns blazing. It is a great form of entertainment for fans to watch their favorite players hitting big sixes and scoring boundaries.

With the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, we will witness some of the best batting performances from the top batters of the world. Let’s check out who hits the most number of sixes in this tournament.

Eoin Morgan

England captain Eoin Morgan broke the world record for most sixes hit in a single ODI innings, smashing 17 in his blistering knock against Afghanistan on Tuesday. The previous mark was 16 sixes, jointly held by Chris Gayle, Rohit Sharma and AB de Villiers.

He also broke the record for fastest ODI century by an England player (57 balls). He was ably supported by Joe Root, who scored a half-century off 36 balls and went on to hit a devastating nine-ball 31.

It is a testament to his batting that after England’s disastrous performance in the 2015 ODI World Cup, they have since reformed and won their first World Cup at Lord’s in 2019. Morgan led the transformation from low to high with his innovative style of batting and astute captaincy.

Chris Gayle

The ODI World Cup saw Chris Gayle break the record of most sixes in the tournament. He smashed 38 sixes against Pakistan and surpassed AB de Villiers to become the most six-hitting batsman in the history of the competition.

The West Indies batsman is known for his aggressive style. His free-stroking approach is most suited to limited-overs cricket but Gayle has also shown that he can be effective at the top of the order in Tests too.

He is one of just a few batsmen to score two Test triple centuries and will finish his international career with 7,214 runs in 103 matches, which ranks him among the highest scorers of all time. He will also go down in history with the most number of runs scored by an ODI batsman, despite having featured in only five World Cups.

Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuriya is one of the most lethal batsmen in the world. His batting was a key reason for Sri Lanka winning the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

He is a very talented player and he has been able to win many international awards in his career. He is second to Sachin Tendulkar by the number of Man of the Match awards in ODIs and he has 11 ODI Man of the Series awards as well.

He was also named the most valuable player in the 1996 ODI World Cup. He was also selected as one of the Five Cricketers of the Year 1997 by Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.

Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting, born in Launceston, Tasmania on 19 December 1974, became one of the most influential cricketers Australia has produced. He is the most successful captain of all time with 48 victories in 77 Tests between 2004 and 31 December 2010.

During his ODI career, he won two ICC World Cups as a batsman, including the 2003 edition where his side was unbeaten.

He is regarded as one of the greatest Test and ODI batsmen in the history of cricket. He has scored over 12000 runs in both formats and is ranked the third best run-scorer of all time.

Ponting was named the best player of his generation in 2005 and is a member of the International Cricket Hall of Fame. He smashed 41 international centuries across all formats, including a world record of double hundreds in 100 Test matches.

Brendon McCullum

Brendon McCullum, New Zealand's acrobatic wicketkeeper, piled on runs in the ODI World Cup. His aggressive starts to the match against strike bowlers such as James Anderson and Mitchell Starc, contributed to his team's success.

He hit 107 sixes from 101 matches and 176 innings at a rate of 0.61. This is only one short of the record set by Adam Gilchrist and is followed by Chris Gayle (98) and Jacques Kallis (97).

McCullum also led his country to victory in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2012, and also took four catches at first slip, deputising for injured Ross Taylor. He was selected to the squad for the tour of West Indies in 2013 and he has continued to be an important member of the Black Caps.
