Your dock line has to be nylon rope. Polypropylene degrades rapidly in the sun, would not have the degree of stretch needed, and has a low braking power so it is usually a terrible choice. Dock strains most typically come in three weave types: three-stand, braided and double braided. There's refined variations between these three kinds of strains listed below, however ultimately, any of these kinds makes a sufficient dock line. Three-strand: Abrasion resistant, stretches more, less difficult to splice, much less expensive.
Braided Nylon: Stronger, effortless on the hands, appears good. Best Dock Lines: Strongest, effortless to handle, abrasion resistant and managed elongation, appears good

Almost anything you purchase in a keep labelled a "dock line" is going to have a loop on one give up for fastening it to a cleat, normally round 12" in size. Transient traces (i.e. non-permanent lines) will no longer have loops on each ends of the line as they will want to drawn to a range of sizes relying on the dock they are on. Permanent traces which in no way depart the dock may also have loops on each ends. If you plan to splice your personal lines, make yourself a choice and buy three strand traces as a substitute for braiding as they are a lot less difficult to splice.
Dock traces come in a range of colours. While the coloration has no actual sensible use apart from aesthetics, preserve the idea that darker strains will have a tendency to fade faster than lighter lines. Conversely, lighter strains bathe dust less difficult than darker lines. Dock strains are designed to impervious your boat to a dock, slip, mooring, or some other boat. There are special strains for each brief and semi-permanent purpose, relying on their intended use.
