An automated storage and retrieval system consists of the equipment that controls, handles, stores, and retrieves the required materials with precision and speed. The systems will differ from small automated systems to even the larger storage and retrieval systems that are computer-controlled and integrated into the manufacturing and distribution processes. Automated storage and retrieval systems have many advantages. They lead to an increase in accuracy levels and provide high storage density and inventory control. It also increases the productivity levels of labor. The two main types of systems are unit-load and mini-load systems. Unit-load systems are used for large loads, like handling full pallets. Unit-load will handle the big jobs that will require moving objects or pallets that have a lot of weight. On the other hand, mini-load systems are small cranes or robots that will handle loads that are lightweight, like trays and cartons. Mini-load systems will use cranes or shuttles.

Conveyor Systems

Conveyor systems are fast and effective mechanical handling systems for transporting loads as well as materials automatically within a location. This system will reduce human error and lower risks in the workplace, as well as labor costs. They are also useful for moving bulky or heavy items from one location to the other. A conveyor system can use wheels, rollers, or a belt or chain for transporting objects. These systems have a belt that is stretched along with two or more pulleys. The belt will form a closed loop around the pulleys for continuous rotation. The drive pulley will drive the belt and move the items from one point to the other.
