The council was established under Pharmacy Act, 2003 and it has the functions of educating the pharmacy profession; professionalising; standardising; developing; and to formulate and monitor appropriate standards and procedures for pharmacist practice and their performance as a pharmacist. PCP also controls quality, safety and efficacy of medicines sold to patients by pharmacists. Presently PCP is working on updating Pharmacy Laws, Procedures & Regulations (PCP [http://pcpresultfor2018. pk/ Pharmacy Council of Pakistan Result File 2018 ]).The Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Karachi, established by Prof. Dr. Ather Nadeem Qasmi in 1955, is the first pharmacy institute in the country which started its journey with 23 students and two staff members. It is now one of the largest pharmacy schools in Pakistan with a student population exceeding 3000 and around 200 academic staff. In 2003–04 it added a Masters program to its activities and now offers MPhil and PhD programs as well. Faculty of Pharmacy has produced many pharmacists who are serving the country in various capacities. The faculty is also known for its research activities which have been recognised by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.In June 2013, Dr. Nadeem Qasmi was conferred with Nishan-e-Imtiaz, an award given to Pakistani citizens in recognition of their distinguished achievements in the fields of Sciences, Arts, Literature, Sports, Public Service and Community Service.
