Development of PSP
PSP has been established since 1982 and became independent from UPM in 2007. PSP has developed over time to become a leading Malaysian institute for agricultural technology with an emphasis on rural development. The establishment of PSP has enabled UPM to serve as a model institution for other universities to emulate because it provides a range of services that address the needs of both academia and industry. It aims to transfer its knowledge, skills, and expertise through education, research, consulting and commercialisation.
Meshing various strengths in food security, agri-business and biotechnology, PSP’s objective is to foster growth of the agribusiness sector through supporting innovations aimed at developing competitive exports of quality produce for domestic consumption or overseas markets.
We have four main programmes which aim at addressing different segments within Malaysia's food security issues. They are Food Agro-Industrial Development Programme (FADP), Agricultural Business Innovation Programme (ABIP), Food Security Policy Research Initiative (FSPRI) as well as Agriculture Technology Management Programme (ATMP).
The success story of PSP
The Malaysia Technology Transfer program was launched by Putra Science Park to help facilitate technology transfer from Malaysia's universities. With a cooperative and collaborative platform, this program addresses current issues with innovation and intellectual property. Through business incubation support, UPM-Malaysia plans to stimulate active interest for science, technology and innovation development for industries in Malaysia as well as create high-value jobs. This Malaysia-driven program works to match the needs of industry partners with the research capabilities available at UPM and other member institutions.
