The CPEng Australia status is the highest available technical credential for an engineering professional. It comes with global recognition as a measure of excellence and symbolizes a high level of skill, experience and talent.
When you hold a Chartered status, it lays a solid value on the years you have given to the engineering profession. In addition, it also gives probable employers and clients immediate confidence and respect in your capability.
In short, it will open the door to career progression, leadership development and opportunities for you to work anywhere in this world.
Eligibility criteria:
To attain Chartership, you must be an Engineers Australia member and have years or more of engineering experience.
In addition, you must maintain 16 elements (Engineers Australia competencies) that are related to your occupational category and area of practice. These 16 elements are on the basis of four core areas listed below:
- Obligation to community
- Personal commitment
- Value in the workplace
- Technical proficiency
If you have more than 15 years of experience in engineering, then the application process is more streamlined.
In the case of holding a Chartered credential from overseas, you may be able to apply by means of a mutual recognition agreement. You have to offer proof of a minimum of 150 hours of CPD over the previous three years.
Alternate pathways to get Chartered:
You can choose the alternate pathways only in some specific situations:
- Mutual Recognition Agreement:
If having a Chartered credential with an overseas engineering body, you can apply for a Chartership by means of a mutual recognition agreement. Details related to the reciprocal organizations and how to apply for membership and a Chartered qualification are on the mutual recognition agreement page.
- Academics:
If your main job is in an academic position at a tertiary institution with recognition from Engineers Australia, you can apply for a Chartership directly. For that, you need to email Engineers Australia to whether you are eligible or not and how to apply.
- Navy Charge:
If you are currently working as a member of the Australian Defence Force, you can apply for a Chartership directly. For that, you need to email Engineers Australia to know whether you are eligible or not and how to apply.
- Credential from a recognized organization:
If having a credential from a recognized organization in the area of below listed below, your credential is equivalent to CPEng Australia. Mail Engineers Australia to know whether you are eligible for the Chartered qualification or not.
- Asset management (AMC CSAM or CFAM)
- Cost engineering (AACEI CCP, EVP, PSP or DRMP)
- Systems engineering (INCOSE SCEP or ESEP)
